Mass Effect is over and the developers at BioWare are taking a final look back at the franchise they created.
The Mass Effect franchise will go down as one of the greatest new IPs created during this generation of consoles. What original started out as an idea that fans were cautious about has now blossomed into a much-beloved franchise bolstered by comics, films, books and the games. Now that Mass Effect 3 is done and out the folks at BioWare can now look back at their creation and take in both the good and the bad.
BioWare has put out a retrospective for the franchise. Producer Casey Hudson and actress Jennifer Hale join writers, engineers and other voice actors as they take a look back at the franchise and the hard road they took to get the final product out. The BioWare doctors are not included in this retrospective as they left BioWare back in 2012 to pursue other career paths.
Mass Effect began with the launch of the original in 2007. Mass Effect 2 continued the story in 2010 and Mass Effect 3 finished it in 2012. The story centers around Commander Shepard and his crew as they try and stop the Reapers, a sinister menace that is bent on wiping out sentient life in the galaxy every 50,000 years. All three games were well received with Mass Effect 2 getting the most praise of the three games.
A new Mass Effect title is in development. However, BioWare Edmonton is working on a new IP with the new Mass Effect game reportedly in development at BioWare Montreal. The new Mass Effect will not feature Commander Shepard as the main protagonist.
