Namco Bandai and Level-5 have released a new trailer for Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, ahead of its release next week.
The trailer, entitled “Special Gift”, tells the heart-warming story of a young boy named Oliver, who embarks on a magical journey into a parallel world, in an attempt to bring back his recently-deceased mother.
Throughout his adventure Oliver will encounter wonderful creatures that inhabit the otherworld, turning them into pets, which can later fight other creatures on his behalf.
For Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, Level-5 collaborated with the legendary Studio Ghibli, of My Neighbour Totoro, Castle in the Sky and Spirited Away fame. In addition, the music comes from Joe Hisaishi, of who’s composed more than 100 films including many of Studio Ghibli’s.
According to Namco, the game takes Japanese role-playing games “to new heights of beauty and brilliance.”
For those not yet sold on what looks to be one of the most intelligent video games of the year, there’s a demo available on PlayStation Network for PS3 as of now. The demo provides players with a taste of two different levels from Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, through which they can test their mettle against two of the game’s bosses – the Guardian of the Woods and Moltaan.
Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is out on January 22 in North America and February 1 in Europe exclusively on PlayStation 3.
