Final Fantasy, one of the most celebrated brands in history, is bringing a large selection its games to iOS.
Yesterday, Square Enix launched Final Fantasy IV on iOS devices. This is part of a new strategy that Square Enix is employing to help make profits after abysmal failures like Final Fantasy XIV. The company has launched a large selection of Final Fantasy titles on Apple’s App Store including Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions, Final Fantasy Dimensions and Final Fantasy IV among other Square Enix titles. As it turns out, this is jut the beginning.
Square Enix has just released a launch trailer for Final Fantasy IV for iOS. The ending of the trailer confirms that Final Fantasy V will be releasing for iOS in the near future. Underneath that is a message stating, “The Final Fantasy mobile revolution begins…” hinting at more Final Fantasy titles making their way to Apple’s platform. Final Fantasy VI will more than likely come after Final Fantasy V’s release.
This is a strong turning point for Square Enix who have been suffering from years of not turning a profit thanks to large development cycles for Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII as well as the failure of Final Fantasy XIV. By releasing their back catalog of titles on iOS devices Square Enix will be able to gain a new source of revenue.
Final Fantasy IV is out now exclusively on iOS devices. Check out the launch trailer below:
