DeNa redefining the FPS experience on iOS with The Drowning
The Drowning

DeNa has announced The Drowning, a brand new first-person shooter for iOS devices.

The game is being developed by Scattered Entertainment, a DeNA studio in Stockholm, Sweden. The Drowning is a straight up first-person shooter that makes use of the iOS functionalities to deliver a grim, suspenseful storyline. On top of all this, the game will be free-to-play.

“We’ve been at the forefront of innovation in free-to-play mobile games since the beginning, and we’re changing the definition of the space once again with The Drowning,” said Clive Downie, CEO at DeNA’s U.S. subsidiary ngmoco, LLC. “We can’t wait to give players a quality, hardcore FPS experience for their mobile devices.”

The Drowning takes place in the near future where continuous oil spills transformed millions into soulless creatures. You’ll play as one of the few survivors and team up with other players to craft and upgrade arsenals of weapons to fight off these soulless creatures and survive.

“Scattered Entertainment’s vision is to bring the type of deep, high-quality and immersive games normally only experienced on PC and consoles, to the convenient, powerful modern mobile device,” said Ben Cousins, general manager of Scattered Entertainment and head of DeNA’s European studio operations. “The Drowning combines the play-patterns and touch-screen specific control systems expected of tablet and smartphone games with unmatched console-quality graphics, innovative skill-based gameplay and a rich, expansive fictional world.”

The Drowning is out early 2013 exclusively for iOS devices, which is comprised of the iPhone, iPod and iPad. No word on an Android version. Check out the reveal trailer below:
