Telltale Games has announced that its smash-hit episodic The Walking Dead series is coming to retail on disk next Tuesday in North America.
The Walking Dead is an episodic downloadable series based on Robert Kirkman’s acclaimed comic series about survivors dealing with life during a zombie apocalypse. The focus on character interactions rather than all-out zombie fighting has made both the comic and video game instant classics.
Earlier this year, Telltale revealed that a retail disk version containing all five episodes would be released at the end of the year. Now, we know that The Walking Dead will release December 11 in North America. A European release has not be revealed yet.
A special Collector’s Edition will also be released, but only at Gamestop. This edition comes with an exclusive Collector’s Edition Box, Collector’s Edition Game Case, and the Walking Dead Compendium 1 that contains exclusive art by Charlie Adlard and has over 1,000 pages of the Comic Book series. Once again, this is a Gamestop exclusive and there will be a limited quantity so if you want it then you better go pre-order.
The Walking Dead has been highly praised throughout the year. It is currently one of two downloadable games to be nominated for Game of the Year at Spike’s Video Games Awards 2012 (Journey is the other title). This is the first year that a downloadable title has been nominated. The winner will be announced at the end of the show on December 7.
The Walking Dead is out December 11 in North America for PS3 and Xbox 360. The PC version will only be available at Best Buy.
