Grand Theft Auto V isn’t currently scheduled to release on Nintendo’s new home entertainment system, the Wii U. However, Nintendo of America’s president Reggie Fils-Aime is hopeful that Rockstar’s top selling franchise will make its way onto his new platform.
Scheduled to launch in the spring of next year, Grand Theft Auto V is poised to be one of the best-selling games of 2013. Those who’ve got access to a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 are sure to be in for a treat with the game already presenting gorgeous graphics and an intriguing storyline that’s cantered around three very different characters. As of now, though, the game isn’t expected to release on the Wii U.
Though, in an interview with MTV, Reggie Fils-Aime has expressed hope that Grand Theft Auto V will eventually make its way onto the platform, stating “The folks there have said very nice public comments about the Wii U.”
“In the end, it is Nintendo’s responsibility to have a large installed base, to have development tools that help the developers and publishers create great content, and essentially create an environment where teams like Rockstar can bring their very best content to our platform, and if we do that hopefully the very best content throughout the entire industry will show up on Wii U.”
Fans shouldn’t be leaping for joy just yet, though. During an interview back in June, Take-Two chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick didn’t express any enthusiasm for Nintendo’s new console, stating that he was “sceptical”, and that the firm has yet to announce anything.
Take-Two is the parent company of Rockstar Games and 2K Games meaning franchises like Borderlands, Grand Theft Auto and BioShock among others are in danger of never arriving on the Wii U.
Grand Theft Auto V is out spring 2013 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. There’s currently no announcement for a PC release as of yet, either.
