Kojima has confirmed that Rising will be at E3 2012 in playable form.

Easily the most controversial announcement at Spike’s Video Game Awards 2011 was the reannouncment of Metal Gear Rising. Moving away from the original vision, and Kojima Productions this new version showed off flashy action from Platinum Games. The response was on a comparable scale to Ninja Theory’s reveal of DmC; people were not happy.

In an interview with Famitsu, Hideo Kojima, Platinum Games CEO Tatsuya Minami, and producer Atsushi Inaba discussed when we would get our first playable look at the game. Turns out we won’t have to wait very long. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be playable at E3 2012.

The interview also discussed how the pairing came to be. At the Vita announcement press conference last year Kojima offered Inaba the game. Inaba at first thought it was a joke, but it wasn’t. That is how Rising changed development hands. Despite the game have a strong resemblance to Devil May Cry and Bayonetta’s combat, Hideki Kamiya is not involved in Metal Gear Rising in any way.

Metal Gear Solid: Rising was the title of the original game announced at E3 2009. A short trailer was shown in 2010 that showed off the cut anything mechanic. The game failed to appear at all in 2011 causing many fears that the game had in fact been cancelled. As we learned at the VGAs, the game is very much still in development.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is due sometime in late 2012 or early 2013 on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
