Nathan Drake’s next adventure will require a code to go the extra mile.
Sony’s España Software Manager Juan Jiménez has revealed that Uncharted 3 will require a one time code to unlock multiplayer features:
“Yes, we’ll continue working with the PSN Pass in order to make a definitive stand against piracy, which basically means we can expect every important Sony release to feature the aforementioned code.”
Online passes have been making their round lately with EA, Ubisoft, THQ, Bethesda, and (recently) Sony all releasing their own versions of online passes. These passes are a direct attack against the used gaming industry. See, used games sales don’t generate revenue for the publisher/developer, which they don’t take too kindly towards. David Jaffe, David Cage, and other developers have been vocal opponents against the industry.
So far, the online passes have only locked down the multiplayer. Bethesda is going the extra mile and is locking out certain singleplayer content. Activision is also taking their own jab with Call of Duty Elite; the first monetized multiplayer experience. Sony just recently introduced the PSN Pass with the release of Resistance 3. Uncharted 3 will be the second Sony title to require the pass.
Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception will release November 1, 2011 exclusively on PS3. If you don’t buy the game new, then the PSN Pass will cost $10/£7.99.
