Dead Island isn’t about “funny Dead Rising stuff”, Techland “trying to do something mature”

Techland’s spoken out in the latest issue of PC Gamer stating that upcoming zombie slasher Dead Island doesn’t try to be “funny” and instead aims to be “something mature.”

“We’re trying to do something mature – it’s not about funny Dead Rising stuff. It’s not like there’s a crazy doctor with crazy experiments” says Producer, Adrian Ciszewski – who reportedly broke his leg showing an actor how to do a proper zombie fall during a motion capture session.

The game sees players stuck on a tropic island, which has been ravaged by a mysterious zombie outbreak, cut off from the rest of the world, the only chance of survival is to fight to the death and escape he former holiday paradise.

In addition to featuring co-operative play for up to four players at once, the game will combine “first-person action with a heavy focus on melee combat, character development and customisation of a vast array of weapons”.

Dead Island is scheduled for release “later this year” on PS3, 360 and PC.
